Cosmos: varieties, growing and uses

Cosmos adds space and movement to a vegetable garden. Its fine foliage leaves other plants visible and the flowers seem to float freely above the greenery. You can choose white, pink or wine-red, a shorter type for a pot, or chocolate-coloured flowers with a very different winter plan.

Use
Chocolate scent in Cosmos atrosanguineus describes fragrance, not edibility. This selection is offered as an ornamental and cut flower without a flavour claim.
Care
Position cosmos in sun and ordinary soil that does not stay wet for long. Sow annual types in spring and plant outside once frost is no longer a risk. Protect tall plants from wind and remove spent flowers if continued flowering is the aim.
Harvest and flowering
Cut fresh flowers for an airy bouquet. Reserve a few heads for fully ripe, dry seed. Home-saved seed may produce different colours or forms. For an exactly named cultivar, bought seed or vegetatively propagated material remains the reliable choice.

  3. Zet zo nodig vroege steun en knip oude bloemen terug.

For a cutting edge or sunny border.

  1. Kies een compact type uit Sonata Series.
  2. Gebruik een pot met afwatering.
  3. Controleer in droge perioden vocht en uitgebloeide bloemen.

Voor balkon of terras.

A white cloud or a dark accent

Create a see-through backdrop

Cutting without harvesting everything

Make a more informed choice next year

Scent, flavour and use

Chocolate scent in Cosmos atrosanguineus describes fragrance, not edibility. This selection is offered as an ornamental and cut flower without a flavour claim.

Care, cutting and harvesting

Position cosmos in sun and ordinary soil that does not stay wet for long. Sow annual types in spring and plant outside once frost is no longer a risk. Protect tall plants from wind and remove spent flowers if continued flowering is the aim.

Cut fresh flowers for an airy bouquet. Reserve a few heads for fully ripe, dry seed. Home-saved seed may produce different colours or forms. For an exactly named cultivar, bought seed or vegetatively propagated material remains the reliable choice.
