Growing and harvesting this variety
Sow in spring in sunny, well-drained soil. Calendula tolerates some light shade but not deep shade. Transplant or thin in time so plants do not flop over one another. Water during prolonged drought and remove faded flowers for a tidy display that keeps blooming.
Pick fresh flowers on a dry morning. For eating, use petals from untreated plants. Allow separately marked heads to develop into ripe, dry seed. Store the unusually curved seed with the species name and date; colours of self-sown plants may vary.
