Zoete langwerpige bessen.

Sweet and sharp; the breeder compares good selections with blueberry and raspberry.
This description applies to the species; a separate taste test of this cultivar has not been confirmed.
Elongated blue berries are an early, distinctive alternative to classic currants.
Plant a suitable combination with space for mature bushes; it is not an acid-soil specialist like blueberry.
Two different, genetically compatible cultivars with overlapping flowering are needed. No separate male bush is needed. Aurora + Honey Bee is recommended; Boreal Beast links Blizzard and Beauty.
Early berry corner: Choose Aurora and Honeybee. Plant as an accessible group. Observe simultaneous flowering. Taste berries before picking a large amount.
Longer Boreal harvest: Combine Beast with Blizzard and Beauty. Give each bush space. Label the different flowering and harvest periods. Compare ripe berries by cultivar.
Let young bushes establish gradually, keep moisture available and protect ripening berries.
Colour alone does not prove eating ripeness. Taste and avoid picking acidic fruit too early.
Record the pollinator combination and flowering; do not use Canadian calendar dates as fixed Dutch harvest dates.
Honeyberry invites you to taste something different early in the fruit season. The elongated blue fruits are not blueberries by another name. Their shape can differ noticeably between cultivars. Position plants so that you can inspect each bush separately during flowering and ripening; a label saying only honeyberry is not enough for pollination.
Before planting, compare suitable cultivar combinations with overlapping flowering. Two randomly chosen honeyberries do not automatically make a good pair. Differences between selections also concern flowering time and compatibility, not just larger fruit. Give each bush space and keep the soil around young roots suitably moist while the plant establishes.
Wait until the fruit is truly ripe before judging flavour. A blue exterior may appear before the best eating quality. Carefully taste a few fruits and assess sweetness, acidity and aroma. In My garden, record which partner stands next to which cultivar, noting both flowering and fruit set. This lets you assess a disappointing harvest more precisely than by the number of berries picked alone.
