Choose the height you need

Floral Showers Deep Bronze is een zeer compacte selectie met roestkleurige bloemen en gele keel. Liberty Classic Light Pink groeit duidelijk hoger met zachte roze aren. Royal Bride geeft hoge witte, geurende stelen. Voor de vaas kies je niet dezelfde hoogte als voor een lage balkonbak; de afbeelding helpt daarom zowel bloem als steel tonen.

Sowing needs attention to scale

The seed is small. Sow a limited tray rather than a large quantity you cannot later prick out. Make a label before sowing and water finely so seeds do not wash together. A photo of the young plant is useful when several species share the same windowsill.

An accessible picking patch

Zet hogere leeuwenbekken aan een onderhoudspad. Een eenvoudig steuntje kan voorkomen dat stelen schuin in de loopruimte vallen. Snijd afwisselend uit de groep, zodat de border niet in één keer kaal is. Houd lage selecties vooraan; dan verdwijnt hun bijzondere bloemkeel niet achter grote bladeren of zware bloemen.

Compare the flowers at eye level

Breng een pot met een laag type dicht bij een zitplek en zet een hoge witte selectie in de plukrand. Je ziet zo hetzelfde bloemprincipe in twee heel andere situaties. Noteer welke plant op jouw plek goed recht bleef en hoe lang verse stelen mooi bleven in een schone vaas.

Scent, flavour and use

This selection is for ornamental and cut-flower use. No general edibility or cultivar-specific flavour is attributed to the flower.

Care, cutting and harvesting

Sow fine seed early in the year on the surface of seed compost; do not cover it with a thick layer. Give young plants light and avoid prolonged wetness. Prick out when seedlings can be handled safely. Harden off and plant out after frosts in a sunny, well-drained position.

Een vaste harde snoeibeurt is niet nodig. Verwijder verwelkte bloemaren om verdere bloei te bevorderen. De plant is een kortlevende vaste plant die vaak eenjarig wordt gekweekt; een koude of natte winter overleven is geen garantie. Houd jonge planten luchtig om uitval te beperken.

Cut fresh flower stems for a vase and leave enough growing points on the plant. Allow only separately selected spikes to produce ripe seed. Home-saved seed does not always give the same result as the named parent, particularly with mixed or hybrid selections.
